Cutting-edge Hardware Design

Motion Applieds SiC inverter family leverages the latest in hardware innovation to push the boundaries of performance, efficiency, and packaging.

At the heart of our MCU family is a next-generation 800V Silicon Carbide power module from our partners at STMicroelectronics. Combined with advanced mechanical and hardware design, this enables:

  • Minimised heat losses and advanced thermal management, achieving peak efficiency of over 99%
  • Up to 75kVA/kg and 125kVA/L, the most power dense inverter on the market
  • Dual-speed switching capability, delivering enhanced efficiency and sustained peak performance across a wider operating range

This combination of cutting-edge components and engineering precision allows our MCUs to meet the demands of high-performance electrified systems, without compromise.

Advanced Software Control

Refined through decades of motorsport and automotive engineering, Motion Applied's SiC Inverter family integrates a suite of patented software features that elevate hardware performance and enable a truly differentiated control experience.

Patented Dynamic Switching Frequency

Our MCUs can continuously vary switching frequency, updating every millisecond. This dynamic control - combined with Motion Applied's motorsport-grade calibration process - optimises system efficiency and motor behaviour in real time. By intelligently balancing inverter and motor losses, it delivers the precision and responsiveness required for high-performance applications, as well as the efficiency to extend vehicle range.

Patented Hybrid Pulse Width Modulation

Across the powertrain performance envelope, there is no single control strategy that is optimum for all use cases. Motion Applied's patented Hybrid Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) employs advanced algorithms to dynamically switch between Space Vector and Discontinuous PWM, optimising in real time for maximum efficiency or motor control, and reducing EMI.

Leveraging Software to Enable Differentiation

Our modular MCU software architecture, paired with Motion Applied's extensive control software capability, unlocks unparalleled potential for differentiation. From bespoke anti-vibration control for gearbox-driven systems, to integrated management of ancillary components like oil pumps, and advanced motor control logic - our MCUs provide a flexible platform to help your systems stand out, with performance and functionality tailored to specific use cases.
